Martial Arts Kettering

New Year..

Into the new year... classes are going well for both Daventry and Kettering clubs. Lots of things to continue working on.. at the moment its been mostly Hong Jia and Cai Li Fo. I need to go back and review some of the other styles, especially some weapons forms that I'm afraid of forgetting. Looking at focusing more on condtioning and more contact work for the Kettering club while the Daventry club we are spending a lot of time working things on the mats and sparring.

Another Update...

Well, We are preparing for the MAP meet up in a few months. So the amount of sparring and contact training is going to increase. Putting on a pair of gloves totally changes the way you have to use your style. Many of the techniques that are taught have little or no effect because it's harder to grab or apply more sneaky aspects of the short hand systems that we use. Also, the size of the gloves can restrict the amount movement with your hands and arms. It will be very interesting to see what works against other styles, not just KF, but BJJ / Kickboxing etc. Takedowns are things to look out for. I have had very little training on the ground so avoiding that is key for me (if possible). Any thoughts?
